Large porous load sterilizers - operators (to NHS guidance)
This course is aimed at personnel involved in operating large porous load sterilizers. These may include Sterile Services Technicians/SSD staff and any other person who is responsible for the operation of a large porous load sterilizer.
Description
Aim
To enable delegates to meet their responsibilities as operators of large porous load sterilizers as defined in British Standards and devolved National Health service, (NHS), guidance.
Objectives
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Describe the complete reusable medical device decontamination process
- Describe the operator & decontamination roles and responsibilities
- Explain the principles of operation of large porous load autoclaves
- Explain the reasons for correct usage and loading of sterilizers
- Explain the relationship between saturation temperature and pressure of steam
- Carry out daily testing on large porous load sterilizers
- Describe the weekly testing process for large porous load sterilizers
- Complete & define the importance of log books for large porous load sterilizers
- Operate large porous load sterilizers

Additional information
Practical exercises form an important part of this course, enabling delegates to achieve the training objectives. If delivered on-site the client must ensure that sterilizer equipment is made available and provide a permit to work in support of training.
